This (text only) book shows twenty five years of American literary writing history as shown through Esquire magazine. This book is good for any one studying American history, literature and to quote part of the Introduction - "what the jargon of the times called 'social consciousness' ". I bought this book long ago because it had an uncollected Salinger story in it (this sandwich has no mayonnaise) but just finally read the whole thing. there are lots of great stories and essays in here. i especially loved the Hemingway one & the Fitzgerald one (especially with the context at the beginning) or at least those stuck in my head the most, but there are lots of great stories in here/5.
